Departmenal Structure


These are the respective ranks and responsibilities for each of the respective ranks below:

Fire Chief
- Right to suspend any department member.
- Right to approve or reject promotions.
- Right to oversee all departmental divisions.
- Right to authorize new policies and procedures.
- Right to represent the department in city government meetings.
- Right to issue department-wide directives.

Assistant Chief
- Right to manage and oversee specific departmental divisions.
- Right to assume command in the Fire Chief's absence.
- Right to approve operational decisions within their division.
- Right to participate in strategic planning sessions.
- Right to review and approve training programs.

Deputy Chief
- Right to supervise battalion chiefs and division heads.
- Right to make operational decisions in their area of responsibility.
- Right to command major incidents until relieved.
- Right to recommend promotions and disciplinary actions.
- Right to oversee specialized units or services.

Command Advisor
- Right to provide strategic counsel to the Fire Chief.
- Right to analyze and report on departmental performance.
- Right to participate in command meetings and decision-making.
- Right to offer tactical advice during major incidents.
- Right to assist in the development of new policies.

Battalion Chief
- Right to command battalion operations and personnel.
- Right to manage and allocate resources within their battalion.
- Right to lead incident command at the scene.
- Right to evaluate and recommend crew members for promotion.
- Right to enforce departmental policies within their battalion.

Captain
- Right to lead and supervise station or unit personnel.
- Right to make decisions during emergency responses.
- Right to manage station operations and readiness.
- Right to conduct performance evaluations.
- Right to oversee training and drills for their crew.
- Right to suspend a volunteer and staffs.

Lead Paramedic/Lieutenant
- Right to supervise EMS operations and personnel.
- Right to ensure compliance with medical protocols.
- Right to manage and allocate medical resources.
- Right to coordinate medical response at emergency scenes.
- Right to mentor and train EMTs and paramedics.
- Right to suspend a misbehaving volunteer.

Paramedic/Engineer
- Right to operate and maintain fire apparatus.
- Right to provide advanced life support medical care.
- Right to assist in firefighting and rescue operations.
- Right to ensure the readiness of medical and firefighting equipment.
- Right to participate in ongoing training and education.
- Right to apply for any division

EMT/Firefighter
- Right to perform basic life support and emergency medical care.
- Right to engage in fire suppression and rescue operations.
- Right to operate firefighting tools and equipment under supervision.
- Right to participate in department drills and training sessions.
- Right to report hazards or concerns to supervisors.

Trainee EMT/Firefighter Recruit
- Right to receive training and mentorship from experienced personnel.
- Right to participate in classroom and practical training exercises.
- Right to ask questions and seek clarification during training.
- Right to be evaluated fairly on their performance.
- Right to access department resources for learning and development.
